MLS Fantasy 2018 - Parsing The Percentages, Round 8

Unfortunately not a real ‘warm hello’ coming at ya from the Northeast, but we are back at it again with another edition of our Parsing the Percentages series. We have once again examined the Vegas betting landscape to determine which MLS players should be on your MLS Fantasy team this weekend!

We’ve enjoyed great success with our selections dedicated in this series so far in 2018, and we look to continue that as we get ready to step into Round 8. This weekend, the oddsmakers are leaning heavily toward New York Red Bulls and Seattle Sounders FC.

New York Red Bulls (vs. CHI)

FiveThirtyEight: 60% chance to win

OddsShark: New York Win -205

OddsPortal: New York Win -213

When we look to this weekend and this plush matchup for NYRB, the name which we hone in on is Bradley Wright-Phillips (9.9m). BWP is in a great spot here to score, score often, and be a main focal point to the entire Red Bull attack as they take on a Chicago team which given up 9 goals this year and will have trouble to stop NYRB. We believe that BWP will be one of the top three attacking options this week and should fill up the stat sheet as NY rolls to a victory.

Two other options which we like for round out the attack end of our lineups would be Kaku (9.0m) and Sean Davis (7.5m). Specifically for their price point, these are two great options for any fantasy lineup this round: Kaku is the main creative threat and should have equal opportunities to both score and assist this weekend, while Davis is a pressing phenom and should have a very high bonus point floor this weekend.

The Red Bulls also offer very strong defensive opportunities this round. Luis Robles (7.0m) is a great switcheroo option with SKC's Tim Melia this weekend, should Kansas City fail to keep a clean sheet on Friday night. Meanwhile, fullbacks Kemar Lawrence (4.8m) and Michael Amir Murillo (5.5m) offer tremendous potential in Round 8 on both ends of the pitch. Lawrence is a steal at 4.8m if you're especially budget conscious, or go with Murillo if you're looking for a guaranteed price-increase this weekend.

Seattle Sounders FC (vs. Minnesota)

FiveThirtyEight: 67% chance to win

Oddshark: Seattle Win -280

OddsPortal: Seattle Win -283

Seattle drew a tie last week with a solid Sporting KC team, but will look to get back into the win column against a harrowing Minnesota club. On the road last week, SEA had a solid showing and found the back of the net twice. Now, back home, they look to bury goals early and often and exploit the Minnesota backfield which has given up 12 goals to date.

Quite simply, regardless of matchup or week, a fantasy manager can always utilize the talents of Nico Lodeiro (12.2m) with confidence and success. Granted, he is priced quite high, but he is well worth the dividends as he takes the pitch against Minnesota. Look for him utilize the whole pitch and ideally rack up the bonus points to continue his torrid point streak in MLS.

If one were looking to stack Seattle this weekend, striker Will Bruin (7.3m) should enjoy some very good scoring opportunities atop the Seattle formation. Clint Dempsey (9.0m) has had a rough start to the season to be sure, but he is well rested and has a favorable matchup this coming weekend for managers looking to live dangerously.

Lastly, Cristian Roldan (8.3m) is a great bonus point floor option for managers looking to go with three or four Seattle players this round. He has all the bonus upside of a Seattle central defender, but avoids the downside penalties if Seattle gives up goals (which they've done quite a bit this season). For this reason, we favor Roldan over any Sounders on the back line this weekend.
