MLS Fantasy 2018 - Round 8 Picks

Tim is back from beautiful Aruba, and is recharged and ready to go! Here are his MLS Fantasy picks for Round 8!!

Switcheroo Picks - Bench

• GK - Tim Melia (SKC)
• DEF - Graham Zusi (SKC)
• DEF - Matt Besler (SKC)
• FWD - Alberth Elis (HOU)

A considerable amount of Vancouver's attack relied on Kei Kamara's ability to be a commanding presence as the target man atop of the Whitecaps attack. Unfortunately for Vancouver supporters, it appears he will be out several weeks due to injury.

As such, we have high hopes for Sporting KC's clean-sheet prospects at home on Friday night. Therefore, we've selected Tim Melia, Graham Zusi, and Matt Besler as our bench options for Round 8.

Picking SKC players for your bench is an especially attractive option this round for MLS Fantasy managers who are limited in the amount of time they are able to devote to active management this weekend.

As the only Friday Night match in Round 8, managers can check to see how SKC players did in the morning on their bench; if they performed very well, they can replace their Switcheroo Starters with DC United players on bye. If they don't, then managers are free to populate their lineups on Saturday morning with players that they think will perform better than SKC did on Friday night.

The final slot for our switcheroo is Houston forward Alberth Elis. Of our three forwards, Elis will be the first to play on the weekend... if he has a monster match, we will simply remove one of our two remaining forwards and slot in a bye-week player instead, guaranteeing that Elis will slide into the starting lineup.

Switcheroo Picks - Starting Lineup

• GK - Chris Seitz (HOU)
• DEF - Kemar Lawrence (RBNY)
• DEF - Oneil Fisher (DC)
• FWD - Dom Dwyer (ORL)

Round 8 features a plethora of very attractive home matchups for midfielders. As such, we are guaranteeing ourselves a 5-midfield formation, which we will break down further below.

Additionally, our squad is currently awash in cash, which means that we are free to go ahead and utilize only one bye-week plug this round: DC defender Oneil Fisher.

For our goalkeeper switcheroo, we've selected Houston goalkeeper Chris Seitz. We were very tempted to utilize Luis Robles in this spot, however given that we can only include four RBNY players on our roster, we went with the second best option. If SKC keeps a clean sheet, Seitz will be removed in favor of a DC goalkeeper. Same goes for Kemar Lawrence who switches out for an SKC shutout; this is based solely on the fact that fellow fullback Michael Amir Murillo has a much higher chance at a price increase based on his prior MLS Fantasy performance this season.

Lastly, if Alberth Elis has a phenomenal outing, then Orlando's Dom Dwyer will be switched out in favor of a bye-week player. This is strictly a timing play here - we anticipate Dwyer to have just as strong of an outing as Bradley Wright-Phillips, however Dwyer plays much later in the day on Saturday, so he will be the only forward that we will be able to swap out once Houston's match wraps up.

• DEF - Michael Amir Murillo (RBNY)
• MID - Kaku (RBNY)
• MID - Sacha Kljestan (ORL)
• MID - Diego Valeri (POR)
• MID - Mauro Diaz (FCD)
• MID - Nico Lodeiro (SEA)
• FWD - Bradley Wright-Phillips (RBNY)

We're very high on New York's chances at home this weekend against a struggling Chicago club. Therefore, three of our four RBNY players find themselves 'locked in' for Round 8. Bradley Wright-Phillips has played brilliantly to start the season, Kaku is looking better each game as he becomes more comfortable with the system, and Michael Amir Murillo as a solid shot at a clean sheet and will likely see a price increase no matter the Round 8 outcome.

Our remaining midfielders are pretty much All Stars across the board: Sacha Kljestan, Diego Valeri, Mauro Diaz, and Nico Lodeiro are all phenomenal players with great home matchups, and we've opted to give Lodi the Captain's armband this weekend.
